:: Information Technology Services and Resource Requirements ::

In preparing your Statement of Intent and final Proposal please identify your assumptions as to how information technologies, telecommunications, and key multi-media and interactive learning tools will be employed. Make specific reference to the technologies, networking and support infrastructure (e.g. computing, development and access tools) that the project requires. You will need to include the costs for ITS support (e.g. set-up and installation services/consultation), training, etc. in your final budget. If the proposed location for your project needs retrofitting or new infrastructure for this project, identify this as well.

Please note that our intent is to not to burden the project itself, but rather to be specific about how to fund and successfully conduct the project with the full benefit of ITS support. Some indication of the needs and access requirements for the students who will benefit from your project will also be of value as well as what training they might require to make the best use of your project. Please consider faculty and staff training needs as well.

Some specific considerations:

  • Types of mainframe and/or UNIX support?
  • Applications programming support and estimates?
  • Use of production facilities, computer lab facilities? (e.g., for multi-media course development)
  • Any WWW connections, space for special site management?
  • Server and Disc space needs?
  • Network access and connections... now and soon?
  • Cable and wiring -- connectivity needs?
  • Specific demands on ITS facilities and/or Library services?
  • Any software or licensing costs anticipated?
  • What distance learning or asynchronous instruction or service delivery is included?
  • What are the physical design concepts considered to achieve your project's intent and how will they impact your instructional strategies?
  • Any assistance in setting up new equipment, networks, servers, etc.?
  • What is the current baseline equipment, skills, connectivity, etc. in place to support your project?

This list is meant to be suggestive of information technology considerations rather than comprehensive. One orientation session is scheduled to provide an opportunity for you to discuss project needs with ITS directors, including budget implications. In addition, please contact Information Technology Services at 756-2966 for referral to the appropriate director to discuss your specific needs and requirements.
