COLLEGE OF AGRICULTURE Top
Dr. Lynn Hamilton, Agribusiness Department
|
|
Dr. Hamilton reported
that her impact on students included three significant
learning outcomes she has attempted to foster in her
courses, which included: 1) a demonstrated understanding
of the the importance of economic forces in food price
changes; 2) a demonstrated ability to understand the
role of prices in agricultural input decisions; 3) the
ability to apply to learning to real-world situations.
Dr. Hamilton continues to support student
learning and progress to degree by working with students
to complete their senior projects. Her particular method
for this was initiated in 1999-2000 and continues to
show very good results.
Dr. Hamilton served as the chair of the
Departmental Curriculum Committee and was able to implement
positive changes to the curriculum which now makes it
easier for students to fulfill the upper-division requirement.
Professional development was a focus of this year for Dr. Hamilton, undertaking collaborative activities and endeavors in
order to advance her familiarity and effectiveness with innovative modes of instruction.

Dr. Samantha Gill, Natural Resources and Management Department
|
|
Dr. Gill has several learning objectives that she tries to achieve in her classes, some of which are: 1) to
have the students become comfortable using technology; 2) to have the students hone their written and oral
communication skills; 3) have the students become comfortable with applying mathematics to natural resources applications.
Dr. Gill continued her work as advisor to Forestry and Natural
Resources (FNR) majors. She was also a faculty advisor for the national forestry honor society and co-advisor
for the Cal Poly Logging Team. She was also a scholarship coordinator for the FNR program and developed a web
page listing scholarships available to FNR students. Dr. Gill was elected as the Chair of the National Inventory
Working Group for the Society of American Foresters.
Along with other surveying faculty, Dr.
Gill received a teaching grant to continue the development
of modules for a web site on surveying equipment. She
was principal and co-principal investigator in several
research grants totaling over $250,000. These grants
involved students in several aspects of these projects.
